blackberry ATC

This is a stamped and embossed ATC that I did for a swap with my Altered book club.
There is a story behind it. My sister and I used to pick blackberries when we first moved into the home where I grew up. There were not many homes in the neighborhood at that time. There were wild blackberries and plum trees everywhere. I loved filling buckets and eating all those goodies that Mom made when we brought them home. But while picking them, I stopped to see what my sister was kicking at. It looked like a giant ant hill. I leaned over to see and about that time a giant bumblebee hill exploded! I had on a loose shirt and got stung several times on my stomach. It took a while for them to catch me as I was running and screaming. I remember the only comfort I got was my Grandma who put snuff on my stings.
I laugh now but then it was no laughing matter then!

mixed media - Think Monday - Think ATC

This is my ATC for this Monday for Think Monday - Think ATC. The theme this week is mixed media so I used a magazine torso that I dry brushed with gesso, a masked and stamped background, gossamer fabric and ribbon for her dress that is covered with pearls and a stamp of wedding rings that I received recently on a wedding invitation. I call her, "Mail Order Bride".

Recently some friends of mine gave me an unbirthday party. They gave me a birthday party in August to surprise me and my birthday is not in August so it certainly did surprise me! One of the many things they gave me was quilt blocks to make into a Red Hat Quilt. Some had borders and some did not. Some were appliqued and some were paper pieced. They were not all the same size. So I decided to go with the randomness and add random borders to the smaller blocks with the scraps that they gave me in order to have the blocks the same size so that I can put them all together. I still have to make one block of my own and I think I might add another red border. The block that is embroidered with a saying says, "Friendship is the golden thread that ties our hearts and souls together." They all will sign this block and I hope to get them to sign each block so that I know who did each block. What a wonderful Un-Birthday present!
